It is located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, near the Quebec and American (New York State) borders. The city is located nearly 100 km from Ottawa and 100 km from Montreal. Cornwall is a welcoming and growing small town offering an exceptional quality of life.
Cornwall's economy has long been dependent on the Domtar Mill, a paper mill, which was the town's main employer until 2005 when it closed. Since that time Cornwall's economy has diversified to include more commercial services and other smaller manufacturing industries. There is now a wide range of all-weather employment opportunities in Cornwall and the region.
