Located between the province of Newfoundland and Labrador to the east and the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region to the west, the Côte-Nord region is made up of six regional county municipalities (RCMs) and thirty-three local municipalities.
The Côte-Nord is the second largest region of Quebec in terms of area, but it has only 1.05% of the population of the province and thus ranks 16th among the 17 administrative regions of Quebec. Its population is mainly found on the coast of the St. Lawrence River.
