Selkirk is a city in the province of Manitoba. It is located 22 km east of the provincial capital of Winnipeg on the Red River.
Its population is approximately 10,000 inhabitants.
The main economy is mainly linked to tourism, but also to the presence of a steelworks and a psychiatric hospital.
Gerdau operates a mini- steelworks in Selkirk. This steel mill (locally known as MRM or "The Manitoba Rolling Mills") is a major employer in the city.
Another major employer is Health Centre, the province's largest mental health facility.
