Renfrew is a town located on the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County, Ontario. Located one hour west of Ottawa in Eastern Ontario, Renfrew is the county's fourth largest city after Petawawa, Pembroke and Arnprior. It is about 5 kilometers from the Quebec border and about 10 kilometers by road. Renfrew has a population of approximately 8,000 inhabitants.
Much of Renfrew's current prosperity can be attributed to its status as the economic center for a surrounding rural region of over 30,000 peoples. Renfrew is also an important stopover for Ottawa cottagers and outdoor enthusiasts who come to the area for rafting, boating, camping, hunting, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, and cross-country skiing.
However, the largest employers in the area are Renfrew Victoria Hospital and Bonnechere Manor.
Renfrew is also historically known for its role in the formation of the National Hockey League. Renfrew manufactures most hockey tapes in Canada.
The city is a small transportation hub connecting highways 60 and 132 to the Trans-Canada Highway.
