Moncton is a city located in Westmorland County, in southeastern New Brunswick, in Acadia.
The 74th most populous city in the country and the most populous city in New Brunswick, its population is 79,000 and nearly 150,000 in its urban area. About a third of the population is French speaking.
Moncton has long been the transportation hub of the Maritime provinces. Indeed, the city is an almost obligatory passage to go to Prince Edward Island or Nova Scotia, which earned it the nickname "Hub City".
Although Moncton's economy has been traumatized twice - by the collapse of the shipbuilding industry in the 1860s and the closure of CN's locomotive shops in the 1980s - the city has bounced back Everytime.
Its economy is diverse, primarily based on its traditional transportation, distribution, retail and commercial heritage, and complemented by strength in the education, healthcare, finance, information technology sectors and insurance.
Working in Moncton is therefore possible in most sectors of activity. Several dozen call centers are located in Moncton and employ thousands of workers. There is also a growing high-tech sector.
There are three major industrial parks in the metropolitan area that have larges concentrations of regional trucking and warehousing facilities.

Tourism is an important industry in Moncton and historically owes its origins to the presence of two natural attractions, the Petitcodiac River Tidal Bore (see above) and the optical illusion of Magnetic Hill.
A number of national and regional corporations are headquartered in Moncton, including the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Assumption Life Insurance, Medavie Blue Cross, Armor Transportation Systems and Major Drilling Group International.
Moncton also has federal public service jobs, with regional headquarters for Corrections Canada, Transport Canada, the Gulf Fisheries Center and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
