About the Opportunity

Our client, a large and complex organization with a high-volume workforce, is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight for its payroll function during a critical period of transition and support.

This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll leader with experience managing large employee populations and leading payroll teams within complex organizational environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, legislative compliance, process improvements, and stakeholder collaboration.

Location: Toronto, ON (Trinity Bellwoods Area)

Work Model: Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Duration: Up to 6 Months Contract

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the end-to-end payroll function for a large employee population.
• Manage, mentor, and support a team of payroll professionals, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
• Review payroll controls, reconciliations, and compliance procedures to ensure adherence to federal and provincial legislation.
• Oversee payroll-related audits, account reconciliations, year-end activities, and regulatory reporting.
• Partner with Finance, Human Resources, IT, and other internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues and implement process improvements.
• Analyze payroll data and reports, identify risks, and recommend operational efficiencies.
• Ensure compliance with applicable employment standards, payroll legislation, tax requirements, and organizational policies.
• Support payroll system optimization and troubleshooting initiatives.
• Provide leadership during periods of change, system enhancements, or business transformation activities.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership responsibility within a high-volume payroll environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing and developing payroll teams.
• Payroll leadership experience supporting large employee populations, ideally 3,000+ employees.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory remittances, year-end processing, T4 reporting, and payroll compliance.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion Payroll is highly preferred. Candidates with experience using other large-scale enterprise payroll systems such as Workday, SAP, Ceridian Dayforce, UKG, or PeopleSoft will also be considered.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is preferred.
• Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
