Financial Analyst

Description
Responsibilities:
• Produce monthly financial reporting packages, interpret results, and explain significant variances to support management decision-making.
• Contribute to the development of annual operating and capital plans, and assist in updating financial forecasts throughout the year and over the longer term.
• Reconcile balance sheet and other key accounts, research discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely and accurate manner.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities by preparing journal entries, accruals, and related working papers.
• Maintain fixed asset records, complete related reconciliations, and prepare reporting tied to capital assets.
• Assist in preparing financial statements, board materials, management presentations, and analysis that supports strategic planning.
• Help complete regulatory reporting, financial submissions, audit schedules, and documentation required for external reviews.
• Partner with the Controller and internal departments to develop financial models, identify trends, and provide insight on risks, opportunities, and operational initiatives.
• Participate in strengthening financial controls, improving reporting processes, and enhancing finance systems and documentation.
• Provide support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, and payroll backup activities as needed.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least five years of progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or a similar finance function.
• CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA Education Program (PEP) is required.
• Solid knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, budgeting practices, forecasting methods, and analytical review.
• Advanced Excel skills, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience using ERP systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Well-developed organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently and collaboratively.
• Experience in utilities, electricity distribution, regulated industries, or payroll support would be considered an asset.
