We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead financial operations and provide sound oversight of accounting activities for our construction client in Kingston, Ontario. This position plays a key role in supporting business decisions through accurate reporting, budgeting, and payroll administration. The successful candidate will bring strong systems knowledge, a hands-on approach to financial management, and the ability to strengthen reporting processes while maintaining compliance and accuracy.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with established standards.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports that provide clear insight into organizational performance and support leadership decision-making.

• Lead budgeting activities, monitor variances, and provide analysis to help guide financial planning and resource allocation.

• Manage payroll processes and coordinate with relevant systems to ensure employees are paid accurately and on schedule.

• Administer and optimize accounting software and related financial tools to improve efficiency, reporting quality, and internal controls.

• Produce customized financial analyses and ad hoc reports to address operational needs and executive requests.

• Support the maintenance and improvement of reporting frameworks using tools such as Crystal Reports and other business systems.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align financial information with operational priorities and strengthen overall data accuracy.

• At least 5 years of experience in a Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior accounting role.

• Strong knowledge of core accounting practices, financial reporting, and budget management.

• Hands-on experience with accounting software systems and financial platforms, including ADP.

• Ability to manage payroll administration with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

• Proficiency in preparing ad hoc financial analysis and translating data into meaningful recommendations.

• Experience using reporting tools such as Crystal Reports and working with integrated business systems, including CRM platforms.

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

We are looking for a CPA or person pursuing their designation although persons without their designation and has post secondary education in finance as well as experience in managing staff in accounting operations in a construction environment are encouraged to apply.
