Robert Half is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our client in the residential home building industry. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of home construction, building codes, contracts, and terminology. They will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with residential construction projects to ensure profitability and client satisfaction. This LONG-TERM CONTRACT opportunity is based in Waterloo, ON.




Responsibilities:

-Maintain organized records of estimates, contracts, and project documentation for future reference and auditing purposes.

-Provide timely and accurate cost projections, budget updates, and variance analysis to project stakeholders.

-Collaborate in obtaining subcontractor rates to support estimators in developing product and preparing Requests for Quotations (RFQs).

-Aid in drafting job-specific contracts when necessary.

-Identify and quantify potential risks and opportunities associated with project estimates.

-Analyze and interpret construction contracts, ensuring alignment with project specifications and requirements.

-Participate in reviewing supplier Scopes of Work to ensure alignment with the company’s standards and construction practices. Coordinate with Contracts to ensure timely updates for any revisions.

-Support the tender process by utilizing base house plans or preliminary dwelling plans to approach preferred trades for budgetary purposes. Evaluate and quantify all received quotes and bids.

-Manage all take-offs for base house and products across all product lines within the ERP system.

-Verify the accuracy and currency of building/unit estimates and product estimates.

-Assist in maintaining spreadsheets and databases to monitor base house costs and upgrade costs.

-Contribute to the identification and implementation of alternative construction methods or design adjustments aimed at cost reduction.

-Provide budgetary insights for future developments during the conceptual stage upon request.

-Offer assistance to other estimators and departments as needed.


-Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred).

-Proven experience as an Estimator in the residential construction industry.

-In-depth knowledge of home construction methods, materials, building codes, and regulations.

-Familiarity with construction contracts, terms, and legal requirements.

-Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and technical documents.

-Proficiency in estimating software and tools, with previous experience in Newstar, Rems, or JDE considered an asset.

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

-Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and precision in cost estimation.

-Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.

-Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
