Civil Litigation Associate

Description
Robert Half Canada is partnering with a prominent litigation-focused law firm in Toronto that is seeking a Civil Litigation Associate to join its practice. This opportunity is well suited to a lawyer who is looking to deepen their experience in sophisticated civil litigation matters within a rigorous, collaborative, and client-focused environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with experienced litigators on a broad range of disputes and will play a meaningful role in file strategy, advocacy preparation, and client service. This position offers exposure to complex matters and the opportunity to contribute across all stages of the litigation process.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and assist with civil litigation matters from commencement through resolution
- Draft pleadings, motion records, affidavits, facta, mediation briefs, and related litigation materials
- Conduct legal research and prepare clear, strategic written analysis
- Support and participate in examinations for discovery, motions, mediations, pre-trials, arbitrations, and trials
- Assist in developing litigation strategy and delivering practical, solution-oriented legal advice
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court or tribunal stakeholders
- Maintain well-organized files, monitor litigation timelines, and manage competing deadlines
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on complex and high-stakes matters
Qualifications
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Experience in civil litigation acquired in a private practice setting
- Strong drafting, research, analytical, and advocacy skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and effective file management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team
- Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, responsiveness, and high-quality client service
Preferred Background
- Exposure to complex commercial, regulatory, or general civil litigation matters
- Experience appearing before courts, tribunals, or in alternative dispute resolution processes
- Interest in working on challenging and demanding litigation files in a high-performance practice
