Our client is seeking an Art Director with fashion and apparel retail experience to support high-volume eCommerce content production for a major retail program. This role will help translate brand, category, and product requirements into clear shot direction, visual standards, layout guidance, and production-ready creative decisions across a wide range of product imagery, including on-figure, off-figure, colourway, licensed, accessory, and bundle assets.

The ideal candidate brings a strong visual eye, sound organizational skills, and a practical understanding of retail production workflows. This person is comfortable working in a fast-paced studio environment where AI-assisted tools may support efficiency, while final creative judgment remains guided by human review.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain visual direction for apparel content across categories such as on-figure, off-figure, kids, footwear, accessories, licensed products, and bundles.
• Collaborate with photographers, stylists, retouchers, producers, and project managers to define shot requirements, cropping, styling direction, model and product considerations, and image hierarchy.
• Review supplier, client, and internal creative inputs to identify missing details, product differences, colourway concerns, or visual risks before production begins.
• Support the consistent application of eCommerce content standards, internal production guidelines, and category-specific image requirements.
• Create or adapt visual guides, shot references, production notes, simple layout assets, infographics, and dimension or accessory chart direction as needed.
• Review image outputs for styling, composition, colour accuracy, product representation, brand alignment, and eCommerce clarity before final quality review or upload preparation.
• Contribute to workflow improvements by identifying opportunities for templates, repeatable visual rules, and AI-assisted creative efficiencies.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in art direction, design, or visual production, preferably within fashion, apparel, retail, catalogue, eCommerce, or studio production environments.
• Strong understanding of apparel photography, styling, fit, colour, proportion, model imagery, off-figure presentation, and digital shelf image requirements.
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately across high-volume SKU production while maintaining quality and consistency.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and comfort reviewing retouching, cropping, layout, and production-ready image assets.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners including photographers, stylists, producers, retouchers, project managers, and client stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and a consistent eye for product accuracy, visual hierarchy, and category alignment.
• Experience in retail, marketplace, mass merchant, apparel brand, agency, or production studio settings is considered an asset.

Technology and Workflow

• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools to support image exploration, reference development, derivative concepts, background ideas, cropping checks, or production efficiency.
• Able to provide practical creative direction to AI-supported workflows while ensuring outputs remain accurate, on-brand, and reviewed by a person before final use.
• Experience with tools such as Adobe Firefly, generative image platforms, masking and background tools, DAM workflows, or eCommerce automation platforms is an asset.
• Understands that AI can support repeatable tasks, while final decisions related to product accuracy, styling, colour, fit, and creative quality remain human-led.
