Accounts Receivable Manager

Description
Responsibilities:
• Provide day-to-day leadership to the accounts receivable team, including coaching, performance support, and workload coordination across multiple construction projects.
• Direct the end-to-end billing process for project work, ensuring timely preparation of progress billings, change-related invoices, scheduled claims, and closeout submissions.
• Administer holdbacks, release schedules, and lien-related documentation in alignment with applicable contractual terms and Ontario construction legislation.
• Oversee collection efforts by maintaining strong client relationships, addressing invoice concerns promptly, and helping shorten payment cycles.
• Reconcile receivable balances with the general ledger and review records regularly to maintain complete and accurate financial data.
• Produce accounts receivable summaries, cash flow projections, and performance reports to support decision-making by senior leadership.
• Work with project managers, estimators, contract administrators, and operations staff to confirm billing details and secure required supporting documentation.
• Investigate and help resolve issues involving project extras, back charges, contract changes, and other billing adjustments.
• Support audit requests and contribute to ongoing improvements in controls, workflows, and financial systems used by the accounting team.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in accounts receivable and accounting, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Background in heavy civil construction, infrastructure, or general contracting environments.
• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of construction invoicing practices, including progress billing, unit price contracts, change orders, holdbacks, and lien processes.
• Knowledge of Ontario prompt payment rules and adjudication requirements under the Construction Act.
• Experience managing receivables for large, complex, multi-year construction or infrastructure projects.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and hands-on experience with accounting or project systems such as Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, JD Edwards, or similar platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to improve cash flow, strengthen receivables performance, and build effective relationships in a deadline-driven environment.
