Our client in Calgary is seeking a Payroll Accountant on a contract basis. The Payroll Accountant will play a vital role in their finance team, responsible for various aspects of payroll accounting, including posting entries, journal entries, and reconciling data from UKG to summary registers. Strong Excel skills are essential for this role, as the Payroll Accountant will be required to manipulate data, generate reports, and assist in troubleshooting discrepancies. While this role does not involve bank reconciliations or preparing trial balances, the Payroll Accountant will be involved in streamlining processes and providing support to the finance team as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities:
- Post entries and journal entries related to payroll transactions.
- Review and reconcile data from UKG to summary registers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Utilize strong Excel skills to manipulate data, generate reports, and analyze expenses and accounts payable.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies and take proactive steps to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in re-classifying coding for payroll expenses as needed, ensuring accurate cost allocation.
- Provide support to managers regarding income statements and other financial inquiries.
- Collaborate with the finance team to pull data for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
- Work closely with HR to understand remuneration details and ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Maintain open communication with team members and actively participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Ad-hoc duties as requested.


Qualifications:
- Strong accounting skills with a minimum of three years of experience in an accounting role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, V-lookup, and data manipulation.
- Analytical mindset with a desire to troubleshoot problems and find solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues across departments.
- Experience with UKG or similar payroll software is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of Power BI is a plus.
- Available to start immediately.
