Job Description
As Health and Safety Advisor - Jobsite, you are primarily responsible for managing the health and safety prevention component of the jobsites assigned to you. You will support and advise internal clients (managers, site supervisors, employees) in the application of established policies, procedures and practices.
You will work on large-scale structural projects mostly in Vancouver to begin, but you must be willing to travel frequently for other projects across Canada.
More specifically, the role will be to:
Prepare and conduct health and safety training and train new employees on occupational health and safety
Conduct periodic inspections in all areas of the field and ensure that corrective actions from the last inspection are completed
Develop the project-specific prevention program and see that it is implemented on the job site
Require that immediate corrections be made to unsafe conditions found during its inspections
Issue and follow up on correction notices
Respond when a potential incident occurs and investigate following an incident
Constantly ensure that health and safety are maintained on the site by all contractors and visitors alike
Participate in various meetings dealing with safety
Conduct contract reviews from an occupational health and safety perspective
Actively participate in the development of health and safety programs
Qualifications
University degree in Human Resources Management or Industrial Relations or equivalent training and experience in occupational health and safety
5 – 8 years of experience on construction sites in an occupational health and safety role
NCSO certification, an asset
Knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations, including industrial hygiene concepts
Knowledge of the major hazards found on construction sites such as: working at heights, confined spaces, hazardous materials, lifting of loads, etc.
Knowledge in the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems, and techniques for conducting audits
Knowledge of occupational health and safety management standards (e.g. OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 COR) (an asset)
Knowledge of American OSHA standards (an asset)
Mobility within Canada
