Resume Templates and Examples

Writing a professional resume is the first step in any successful job search. It is important to remember that your resume is the first impression a potential recruiter will have of you. You must therefore write quality content, effectively market your qualifications and skills and, above all, format your resume so that it is professional, visibly appealing and easy to read.

We have created 5 resume templates that you can download in PDF format. These examples are an excellent starting point for writing your resume.

1- Chronological resume template: Chronological resumes are the most commonly used and generally a safe bet. This type of resume works best for people who have been in a specific field for a long time and want to show the evolution of their tasks and responsibilities, as well as the acquisition of new professional skills. In our resume example, experiences are listed in reverse chronological order, from the most recent to the oldest. This straightforward resume will quickly show potential recruiters your various employment experiences, including a general overview of your positions, duties and responsibilities, the duration of your employment with each employer, and other relevant details. However, we do not recommend this resume template for people with unstable work history.

2- Skills-based resume template: Skills-based resumes are a great fit for people with disparate work experience or when applying for positions that are not related to previous experience. This resume template emphasizes the different skills acquired in previous experiences and focus on those that will be particularly useful for this specific position. This resume can also be used to de-emphasize a lack of experience, which may be appropriate for recent graduates, among others.

3- Functional resume template: Functional resumes are used when professional accomplishments are more impressive than previous experience and positions held. This may be the case for fairly competitive fields, such as being a business development specialist or a salesperson on the road. This resume template focuses primarily on accomplishments, which are grouped by type, and highlights how they were achieved. For example, an advertising campaign manager might mention that she increased revenues at her former company by 27% through the implementation of a highly effective advertising campaign.

4- Combination resume template: Combination resumes focus equally on work experience, accomplishments and skills. In this resume template, professional achievements are presented first, followed by work experience in reverse chronological order. This type of resume is straightforward and can quickly catch a recruiter’s attention. The key advantage of this template is its capacity to highlight important professional achievements that occurred a while ago.

5- Academic resume template: Some professions are so technical that the education received is more important than the experience itself. For instance, this may be the case for a lawyer, doctor or engineer. This also applies to recent graduates. In this situation, it is generally recommended that people highlight their education by listing the various diplomas received (do not include your elementary school diploma). If necessary, a description can also be added for each diploma (courses taken, honorable mentions, etc.).

Depending on your profession, your industry and your experience, some resume templates and examples will suit your situation better. Take a look at the 5 templates listed above and find the one that works for you.
