Our Calgary-based client is seeking a Systems Administrator for a 3-month contract engagement. This role is focused on supporting and stabilizing a Microsoft-centric environment while helping identify the root causes behind recurring infrastructure, identity, endpoint, and user support issues.

The successful consultant will assess the current state of the environment, resolve operational challenges, and provide practical recommendations to improve overall stability, security, and standardization. In addition to ongoing operational support, the consultant will assist with an upcoming user onboarding initiative that includes configuring and deploying new laptops, leveraging remote deployment and Microsoft Intune-based provisioning wherever feasible.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including user accounts, licensing, access management, and tenant configuration.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Microsoft 365, password, authentication, identity, and access-related issues.
• Support and maintain Microsoft Entra ID and hybrid identity environments.
• Manage endpoint administration and device lifecycle activities through Microsoft Intune.
• Assess and improve endpoint management practices, software deployment processes, and device configuration standards.
• Configure, deploy, and support new laptop and workstation rollouts, including an upcoming deployment of approximately 15 laptops for users in Saskatoon.
• Respond to and resolve infrastructure, endpoint, identity, and end-user technology issues.
• Review network, firewall, server, and infrastructure configurations from an operational perspective.
• Assess network connectivity, access controls, and overall infrastructure health.
• Identify configuration inconsistencies, technical debt, operational risks, and end-of-life technologies.
• Perform root cause analysis on recurring issues and recommend practical remediation strategies.
• Document findings, improvement opportunities, and recommendations for environment stabilization.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to prioritize and execute short-term improvements.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of experience in Systems Administration, Infrastructure Administration, or a similar role.
• Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune and endpoint management.
• Experience supporting Microsoft Entra ID and hybrid Active Directory environments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across identity and access management, endpoint technologies, and Microsoft cloud services.
• Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and user account administration.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and network access controls.
• Experience identifying root causes of recurring technical issues and implementing sustainable solutions.
• Ability to work independently and quickly become productive within an existing environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
