We are looking for an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to join a Toronto, Ontario team in a Long-term Contract position. This role focuses on inventory and cost accounting, month-end activities, and financial analysis within a complex operating environment. The successful candidate will work closely with operations and other business partners to strengthen reporting accuracy, support process improvements, and provide meaningful financial insight to leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Manage cost accounting activities by maintaining calculations, monitoring cost flows, and supporting consistent valuation practices.

• Partner with operations, logistics, and other internal teams to investigate inventory variances and improve the accuracy of stock balances.

• Complete quarterly standard cost assessments and evaluate the financial impact of updates in collaboration with operational stakeholders.

• Reconcile third-party logistics shipment records against internal data, including analysis of goods in transit and related discrepancies.

• Contribute to inventory management system testing and help shape process design as part of implementation-related activities.

• Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned accounts during the month-end close cycle.

• Review financial results for designated areas, perform variance analysis, and present key findings to senior management.

• Analyze product costing, cost of goods sold, gross margins, and profitability trends to support business decision-making.

• Lead support activities for quarterly and year-end audits, oversee cycle count controls, and help maintain compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.

• Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial analysis within a complex business environment.
• Strong working knowledge of month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement review.
• Experience coordinating with operations, logistics, and cross-functional teams to resolve process and inventory issues.
• Proven ability to perform variance analysis, assess standard costs, and interpret profitability and margin reporting.
• Familiarity with audit support, internal controls, compliance requirements, and cycle count oversight.
• Hands-on experience reviewing third-party logistics activity, shipping-related reconciliations, and goods-in-transit balances.
• Ability to identify process gaps, recommend practical improvements, and support policy and procedure development.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial results clearly to senior leadership.
