Our client, a growing and well-established organization in the consumer products and distribution space, is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA-designated professional who enjoys operating in a hands-on environment where they can make a meaningful impact on both the accounting function and broader business operations.
Reporting directly to the Divisional Controller, the Senior Financial Accountant will play a key role in full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, inventory accounting, process improvement initiatives, and operational support across multiple entities. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong business acumen, and possess the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and drive results independently.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage full-cycle accounting across multiple entities in accordance with ASPE standards.
• Prepare journal entries related to fixed assets, inventory, accruals, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepare and review account reconciliations and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Support inventory accounting, valuation, adjustments, cycle count analysis, and variance investigations.
• Perform gross margin, sales, pricing, and cost analysis as required.
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies, transaction issues, and financial reporting variances.
• Partner with Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, and IT teams to resolve financial and process-related issues.
• Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Assist with customer deductions, rebates, chargebacks, broker commissions, and related reporting requirements.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting initiatives.
• Identify process inefficiencies, control gaps, and opportunities for automation and operational improvements.
• Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance requirements.
• Provide backup support for critical accounting functions during peak periods and team absences.
• Participate in special projects and other ad hoc accounting duties as required.
Qualifications
• CPA designation is required.
• 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience within manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, or multi-entity environments.
• Strong knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS.
• Demonstrated experience managing intercompany accounting and consolidations.
• Extensive experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
• Experience supporting external audits and compliance requirements.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting and related reconciliations.
• Knowledge of federal, provincial, and indirect tax requirements.
• Previous experience working within an ERP environment; SAP experience is considered an asset.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and present practical solutions to complex issues.
• A proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and contribute where needed.
Compensation & Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000. depending on experience.
