THE ROLE:

Our client, based in Calgary, is seeking a Designated Senior Accountant for a 5‑month contract to support monthly and period‑end accounting and reporting activities. This role plays a key part in ensuring an accurate, timely close while partnering with the business on variance analysis, ad‑hoc reporting, and decision support. You will be responsible for posting journal entries, completing and refining balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances, and supporting month‑end and quarter‑end reporting. A critical component of this role involves working closely with business partners, providing insight, setting clear boundaries, and constructively challenging requests when needed.

YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA), or actively completing designation requirements
• Minimum 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong experience with month‑end close, including accruals, reclasses, and journal entries
• Proven ability to develop, complete, and refine balance sheet reconciliations
• Experience preparing variance analysis on monthly and quarterly results
• Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills
• Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables and lookups
• Ability to partner successfully with business teams on variance analysis
• Highly organized, detail‑focused, and committed to continuous improvement
• Exposure to Tier‑1 ERPs (SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards)
