Job Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid)

About the Company

Our client, a well-established and growing retail organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their dynamic finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, highly analytical accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable working with large, complex data sets.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
• Prepare and review monthly consolidated financial statements and supporting working papers
• Oversee and mentor an Accountant, providing guidance and review of day-to-day deliverables
• Perform detailed inventory reconciliations and ensure proper costing and valuation
• Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
• Prepare income tax and support tax working papers for year-end
• Support financial reporting requirements, including internal management reporting and analysis
• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, controls, and reporting accuracy
• Perform variance analysis (budget vs. actuals) and provide actionable insights to leadership
• Assist with FP& A activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
• Prepare cashflow models and monthly cashflows
• Be key contact with external auditors and CRA, providing documentation for audits
• Leverage data analytics tools to support decision-making and reporting enhancements
• Develop and maintain dashboards using Power BI or Tableau
• Utilize Power Query and advanced MS Excel for data extraction, transformation, and analysis

Qualifications & Experience

• CPA designation is required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior experience within retail, distribution, or wholesale industries is required, or audit experience supporting retail clients
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and high-volume transaction environments
• Proven experience managing or mentoring junior team members
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, data modeling)
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, and Power Query strongly preferred
• Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to work with and analyze large, complex data sets
• Solid understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end processes
