Our client is looking for a Property Accountant to join their real estate property and facilities management organization in Vancouver, British Columbia on a Contract basis. This role focuses on accounts receivable and property accounting activities across a sizeable commercial and residential portfolio, with an emphasis on tenant account reconciliation, billing accuracy, and issue resolution. The successful candidate will work closely with supervisors and administrative support staff to investigate exceptions, manage escalations, and help maintain strong financial controls. This six-month contract may lead to a longer-term opportunity for someone with solid property accounting experience and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts receivable activities for a diverse property portfolio, including preparing tenant billings, monitoring outstanding balances, and supporting collection efforts.

• Reconcile tenant accounts by reviewing transactions, identifying discrepancies, and resolving outstanding issues in a timely manner.

• Calculate percentage rent for applicable commercial tenants and ensure supporting records are complete and accurate.

• Investigate exception reports, analyze irregularities, and take appropriate steps to correct account variances.

• Handle escalated account concerns by assessing the issue, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and delivering clear resolutions.

• Complete account and bank reconciliations to support accurate financial reporting and maintain the integrity of property records.

• Review financial and tenant data within the property accounting system to ensure information is current, consistent, and properly documented.

• Support accounting operations across commercial properties, including shopping centres and large multi-unit assets in British Columbia and Alberta.

• Experience in property accounting, preferably within commercial real estate or a mixed property portfolio.
• Strong understanding of accounts receivable processes, including billing, collections, and account reconciliation.
• Ability to calculate percentage rent and interpret lease-related financial information accurately.
• Proficiency with Yardi and confidence working with accounting software systems in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to review, organize, and analyze financial data effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate discrepancies and recommend practical solutions.
• Accounting designation in progress, newly completed, or close to completion is preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
