Our client is a well-established and growing agricultural manufacturing organization with a long-standing presence in the Fraser Valley. They are seeking a Procurement Specialist to join their team and support the sourcing and purchasing of materials required for their manufacturing operations.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Procurement Specialist will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing and managing direct materials while balancing cost, quality, availability and supply risk.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure materials are available when required and that procurement activities support operational and financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Source, negotiate and purchase direct materials based on production requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and monitor vendor performance.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, delivery requirements and purchasing agreements.
• Monitor market conditions, commodity pricing and supply trends.
• Identify cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities.
• Evaluate suppliers and identify alternative sources to mitigate supply risk.
• Manage purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records.
• Work closely with production, inventory, logistics and planning teams to ensure supply continuity.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with resolving supply or inventory issues.
• Track supplier performance related to pricing, quality, delivery and responsiveness.
• Support supplier evaluations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify and manage procurement, supply and vendor risks.
• Maintain accurate pricing, specifications and supplier information within ERP systems.
• Support procurement policies, procedures and process improvements.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing or supply chain.
• Experience managing suppliers, purchase orders and sourcing activities.
• Manufacturing, agriculture, food/feed or industrial purchasing experience is an asset.
• Strong negotiation and vendor relationship management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to monitor market conditions and make informed purchasing decisions.
• Experience with ERP/procurement systems.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, Commerce or a related field is preferred.
• SCMP/CSCL designation or progress toward designation is an asset.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a commercially minded procurement professional who is comfortable negotiating with suppliers, analyzing pricing and market conditions, and making decisions that balance cost with supply reliability.

Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, food production, feed, commodities or another purchasing-intensive environment would be highly valued.
