Our client is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join their team in Alberta on a Contract basis with potential for permanency. This role will support payroll for a large employee population, including salaried and daily-rate employees, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, benefits, and employee support.

Responsibilities:

• Process monthly payroll for salaried, daily-rate, and administrative employees.
• Set up new employees, including benefits and pension enrollment.
• Maintain payroll records through onboarding, status changes, leaves, and terminations.
• Process union dues, deductions, and other statutory withholdings accurately.
• Administer employee leaves and support WCB, EI, and other payroll-related documentation.
• Prepare payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting accounting records.
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, benefits, and pensions.
• Support year-end payroll activities, including T4 preparation and reconciliations.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of payroll administration experience, including full-cycle payroll processing.
• Strong knowledge of benefits, pensions, statutory deductions, and year-end reporting.
• Experience managing payroll changes related to onboarding, terminations, leaves, and adjustments.
• Ability to accurately process payroll for large employee populations with multiple pay structures.
• Experience with payroll reconciliations and journal entries.
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance, including EI, WCB, and source deductions.
• Unionized payroll experience is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage high-volume payroll activities.
