We are looking for an experienced Payroll Accountant to support a long-term contract opportunity for our client based in Ottawa, Ontario. This position is ideal for someone who can manage payroll and accounting activities with accuracy across a multi-provincial environment. The successful candidate will bring strong Excel capabilities, hands-on experience with payroll and accounting systems, and the ability to contribute to financial reporting, planning, and day-to-day reconciliations.

Responsibilities:

• Administer bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule for employees working in multiple provinces.

• Maintain payroll records, deductions, and remittances while ensuring compliance with applicable payroll and tax requirements.

• Reconcile general ledger payroll accounts and investigate any variances to support accurate financial reporting.

• Complete monthly banking activities and perform account reconciliations to ensure transactions are properly recorded.

• Review and reconcile corporate card or expense-related transactions, including Visa activity, in a timely manner.

• Support budgeting and forecasting processes by preparing payroll and accounting data for analysis and planning.

• Use payroll and accounting platforms, including Payworks and related systems, to process transactions and maintain data integrity.

• Prepare and update spreadsheets and financial schedules in Excel to track payroll, reconciliations, and reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience in payroll and accounting roles with responsibility for full-cycle payroll processing.

• Demonstrated experience handling payroll for a workforce operating across more than one Canadian province.

• Strong proficiency in Excel, including the ability to build and maintain detailed financial and payroll spreadsheets.

• Hands-on experience with Payworks and familiarity with accounting software used for payroll and financial processing.

• Solid understanding of general ledger reconciliations, banking activities, budgeting, and forecasting.

• Knowledge of payroll legislation, source deductions, benefits administration, and tax-related payroll obligations.

• Experience working with systems such as ADP, ADP Workforce Now, Ceridian, Concur, or similar payroll and accounting tools is considered an asset.
