Microsoft Business Central Consultant (Contract)

Location: Remote (may require periodic travel to Southwestern Ontario, Kitchener/Waterloo Region).

Duration: 3 months with potential for extension

Work Hours: Full-time hours also open to fractional or part-time options.

Our client, a well-established organization in a regulated and operationally complex environment, is seeking an experienced Microsoft Business Central Consultant for a contract engagement.

The successful consultant will take a hands-on approach to reviewing the current Business Central setup, identifying process gaps, and recommending practical improvements that support better system usage across the organization. This engagement is ideal for someone who combines strong Business Central expertise with business process improvement, user enablement, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct a detailed review of the current Microsoft Business Central environment, including system setup, workflows, and day-to-day usage
• Assess where current processes and identify gaps between system capability and business needs
• Evaluate manual workarounds, inefficiencies, and areas where automation or better configuration could improve performance
• Develop practical recommendations to improve system functionality, usability, and operational effectiveness
• Partner with finance, operations, and internal technology stakeholders to better align the system with business requirements
• Review current reporting capabilities and identify opportunities to strengthen reporting outputs, dashboards, and decision-support tools
• Provide guidance related to Power BI and reporting enhancement opportunities where applicable
• Troubleshoot issues related to system configuration, workflow design, and adoption challenges
• Support user training, knowledge transfer, and change enablement to improve comfort and consistency across teams
• Document current-state processes, recommended improvements, and future-state workflows
• Serve as a subject matter resource on Business Central leading practices and optimization opportunities

Qualifications

• Proven experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including post-implementation review, optimization, or stabilization work
• Strong understanding of ERP workflows across finance, operations, and related business functions
• Experience identifying configuration gaps, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for improved system adoption
• Ability to translate business needs into practical ERP recommendations and workflow improvements
• Exposure to reporting tools and dashboard enhancement, including Power BI, is an asset
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical groups
• Experience supporting training, user enablement, and organizational adoption efforts
• Comfortable working independently in a consulting capacity and providing structured recommendations
• Prior experience in utilities, infrastructure, public sector, manufacturing, or other process-driven environments is considered an asset
