Controller & HR Manager – North America

Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller & HR Manager to lead the finance, control, and HR functions across its Canadian and U.S. operations. This is a highly visible leadership position offering broad exposure to cross-border finance, US GAAP reporting, and full controller-level responsibilities within a growing international organization.

Reporting to senior leadership, the successful candidate will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and HR activities across North America, while managing a small finance team and partnering closely with operational leaders to drive business performance.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Financial Leadership & Controller Functions

• Own the full accounting cycle and financial reporting process for both Canadian and U.S. entities
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to the global parent company
• Maintain a robust internal control environment and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory reporting requirements
• Apply and maintain strong knowledge of US GAAP and Canadian accounting standards within a multi-entity environment
• Manage external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance across both countries
• Oversee cash flow, working capital, and treasury activities
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes and provide meaningful financial analysis to support decision-making
• Drive process improvements and strengthen financial controls as the business continues to grow

Cross-Border Finance Oversight

• Manage financial operations across both Canada and the United States
• Navigate the complexities of a cross-border, multi-entity structure, ensuring consistency in reporting, controls, and compliance
• Partner with leadership teams on both sides of the border to support operational and strategic initiatives
• Ensure alignment with corporate accounting policies and reporting requirements

Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable team members
• Develop scalable processes and improve overall finance department efficiency
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

HR Leadership

• Oversee HR operations for Canadian and U.S. employees
• Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding
• Ensure compliance with employment legislation and workplace regulations in both jurisdictions
• Coordinate payroll, benefits administration, and HR policies
• Partner with management to support employee relations and talent initiatives

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA designation completed or in progress is considered an asset
• 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including Controller-level responsibilities
• Strong experience in US GAAP financial reporting
• Proven success working within a cross-border Canada/U.S. environment
• Experience managing month-end close, financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and forecasting
• Exposure to HR leadership or a willingness to take ownership of the HR function
• Strong leadership, communication, and business partnering skills
• Hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategic thinking and day-to-day execution
