Our client a global leader in the manufacture of industrial equipment is looking for an experienced Cost Accounting Manager to oversee costing activities and strengthen financial insight for our operations in Toronto, Ontario. This position plays a key role in evaluating product and project performance, improving reporting accuracy, and supporting informed business decisions. The successful candidate will work closely with finance and operational leaders to enhance cost visibility, maintain strong controls, and contribute to profitability and planning initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Direct cost accounting activities for the Measurement Systems portfolio, ensuring reliable costing for both products and projects.

• Produce monthly operational financial reports with clear analysis of revenue, materials, labour, overhead, and key cost variances.

• Maintain costing structures and review profitability trends to support performance monitoring and strategic decision-making.

• Reconcile gross margins and investigate cost fluctuations to provide meaningful financial insight to leadership.

• Administer inventory and work order valuation processes, including reserve assessments, control procedures, and physical count oversight.

• Uphold internal control standards and maintain readiness for audit requirements related to costing, inventory, and financial reporting.

• Assist with internal and external audit activities by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries on cost and inventory matters.

• Collaborate with management to assess project results, compare actual spending to expectations, and identify opportunities to reduce costs.

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts aimed at improving efficiency and overall business performance.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• An accounting designation such as CPA, CMA, or an equivalent credential is considered an asset.
• At least 7 years of progressive experience in cost accounting, cost control, and general accounting within a manufacturing setting.
• Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, variance review, and financial control practices.
• Experience using ERP platforms, with preference given to candidates familiar with Syspro, Epicor, or similar systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex analysis, financial modelling, and management reporting.
• Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to turn financial data into practical recommendations.
• Proven background in budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis, along with the communication skills to work effectively across finance and operations teams.
