We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a non-profit organization in Ottawa, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This role will lead the full finance function, provide accurate financial reporting, and support informed decision-making across the organization. The successful candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to communicate financial results clearly to leadership and the board.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure financial activities are completed accurately and on schedule.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Present financial results, key trends, and budget updates to the board in a clear and thorough manner.

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support organizational planning and financial stewardship.

• Manage payroll processes and maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and reporting requirements.

• Reconcile accounts regularly, investigate discrepancies, and strengthen financial controls where needed.

• Generate ad hoc financial analysis and customized reports to support operational and strategic decisions.

• Work with accounting and reporting systems to maintain reliable financial data and improve reporting efficiency.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or controllership functions.

• Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements and deliver financial information to senior leadership or a board.

• Strong knowledge of budgeting, reporting, payroll, and account reconciliation.

• Experience using accounting software systems and financial reporting tools such as Crystal Reports.

• Familiarity with platforms or systems such as ADP, CRM tools, and related finance applications is considered an asset.

• A CPA or similar accounting designation is an asset.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
