Robert Half Management Resources is the worldwide leader in specialized consulting and staffing services for senior-level accounting, finance and business systems professionals.
We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a non-profit organization in Ottawa, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This position will oversee core financial operations, support accurate reporting, and help ensure compliance with funding and audit requirements. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, advanced Excel capabilities, and hands-on expertise with Sage 50 in a multi-faceted accounting environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the day-to-day accounting function and provide guidance to a team of three direct reports.
• Prepare accurate financial reports, analyses, and ad hoc reporting to support organizational decision-making.
• Oversee budgeting activities, monitor variances, and contribute to effective financial planning.
• Manage payroll processes and help ensure timely, accurate compensation administration.
• Maintain reliable financial records within Sage 50 and support the effective use of accounting systems and reporting tools.
• Coordinate government contribution tracking and ensure financial records align with funding requirements.
• Support audit readiness by preparing documentation and responding to government and financial audit requests.
• Work with internal stakeholders to strengthen reporting processes and improve the quality of financial information.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or controllership roles.
• Demonstrated background working in a non-profit environment or with similar funding structures.
• Strong understanding of government contributions, compliance obligations, and audit processes.
• Proficiency with Sage 50 and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience overseeing budget processes, payroll, and financial reporting activities.
• Familiarity with accounting software, CRM platforms, and reporting tools such as Crystal Reports.
• Proven ability to supervise staff and coordinate priorities across multiple accounting functions.
