We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to provide dependable financial and asset support for the Town of Huntsville in Huntsville, Ontario. This Long-term Contract opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys working with detailed records, maintaining accurate financial information, and supporting day-to-day accounting operations in a structured environment. Reporting to the Finance team, the successful candidate will contribute to reconciliations, asset record maintenance, reporting support, and data quality activities while working closely with established staff and processes.

Responsibilities:
• Record routine financial transactions and help keep general ledger information current and accurate.
• Complete reconciliations for banking, trust, investment, and related accounts, and investigate discrepancies for follow-up.
• Review and match balances between the general ledger and connected sub-systems to support accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain asset management records by updating additions, disposals, and other key asset details within the system.
• Assist with capital asset tracking, amortization schedules, and supporting documentation for finance review.
• Prepare recurring internal reports, schedules, and data summaries related to financial activity and asset information.
• Carry out system uploads, data entry, and validation checks to help preserve the accuracy of financial and asset records.
• Provide administrative and customer service support to the Finance department, including assistance with special projects and information requests.
• Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
• Practical experience with accounting processes such as reconciliations, accounts payable, invoice handling, payroll support, or payment processing.
• Background in municipal finance, asset management, or inventory-based recordkeeping is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency using Excel and confidence working with accounting, ERP, or financial management systems.
• Experience with platforms such as iCity, ADP, Ceridian, Concur, or similar financial software is considered an asset.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing time-sensitive tasks.
• Ability to work collaboratively under supervision and respond professionally to inquiries from staff and the public.
