Accounting Manager (hybrid)

North Vancouver, BC | Permanent | Full-Time

Our client is a well-established organization located in North Vancouver and is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on with the numbers while also providing leadership, mentorship, and oversight to an accounting team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s full-cycle accounting function, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, and ensuring effective financial processes and controls. Experience with, or exposure to, unionized payroll processing will be considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full-cycle accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close

• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules

• Lead and mentor members of the accounting team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure accuracy and efficiency

• Manage the month-end and year-end close processes and ensure reporting deadlines are consistently met

• Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial information

• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis as required

• Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial processes

• Oversee payroll-related accounting and provide support and/or oversight for unionized payroll processing, including familiarity with collective agreement requirements, payroll deductions, benefits, and related remittances

• Liaise with HR and other internal stakeholders regarding payroll and employee-related accounting matters

• Coordinate with external auditors and assist with year-end audit requirements

• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting

• Provide financial insight and support to senior leadership on an ongoing basis

• Take a hands-on approach to accounting while providing leadership and direction to the broader finance function

Qualifications & Experience

• CPA designation or working toward a CPA is preferred

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong full-cycle accounting experience

• Previous experience in an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar leadership role

• Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or supervising accounting professionals

• Strong understanding of month-end and year-end close processes and financial reporting

• Experience with payroll accounting; exposure to unionized payroll is highly desirable

• Working knowledge of payroll legislation, remittances, benefits, and related accounting requirements

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies

• Experience with accounting software/ERP systems and strong Excel skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

• A hands-on, collaborative leadership style with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement
