Robert Half Canada is recruiting for a Senior Manager, Accounting – Finance on behalf of a respected nonprofit organization in Toronto. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced finance professional who is passionate about building strong teams, improving financial operations, and contributing to an organization with a meaningful community impact.

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the Senior Manager, Accounting – Finance will provide leadership to the accounting function, oversee day-to-day financial operations, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This role will also play an important part in enhancing financial processes, strengthening internal controls, and supporting organizational growth and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including payroll, in alignment with organizational policies and objectives.
• Oversee daily accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
• Monitor and safeguard organizational assets and ensure strong internal controls are in place and consistently followed.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in accordance with Canadian GAAP and related guidelines.
• Oversee the preparation and filing of HST/GST returns in compliance with applicable regulations.
• Manage banking relationships and fulfill reporting requirements with financial institutions.
• Lead year-end audit activities and coordinate schedules and documentation with external auditors.
• Serve as business owner for the finance ERP system, including chart of accounts governance, system controls, and reporting automation.
• Partner with financial reporting, budgeting, and cross-functional teams to improve financial policies, procedures, and business rules.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring timely disbursements and efficient collections.
• Provide organization-wide guidance on accounting policies and financial procedures.
• Act as a subject matter expert on Ontario Health Reporting Standards (OHRS) and support compliance across the organization.
• Support additional operational priorities to ensure the effective delivery of finance and accounting services.

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• CPA designation required.
• 5–7 years of progressive general accounting experience.
• Minimum 2 years of people management experience.
• Proven experience in a leadership role such as Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager, or Finance Manager.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, accounting practices, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of legislation related to Canadian charities is preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulas.
• Experience with NetSuite and other financial systems such as Yardi, Zone Employee Portal, and Zone Capture is an asset.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and delegate effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams through change.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
