Our client is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close activities, and team leadership. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, maintaining effective internal controls, and supporting the organization's financial objectives.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, leadership experience, and a hands-on approach to managing accounting processes within a fast-paced environment.

Hourly pay is $43-$53/hour (T4).

Hybrid work environment with 3 days onsite in Peterborough, ON.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and activities of the accounting team.
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
• Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
• Support external auditors and coordinate annual audit requirements.
• Analyze financial data and identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
• Partner with internal departments to resolve accounting issues and ensure accurate reporting.
• Monitor and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff, including goal setting and performance management.
• Participate in system implementations, process improvement initiatives, and special projects.
• Support payroll-related activities and reporting as required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in an Accounting Manager role.
• Experience within a large corporate accounting environment and/or public accounting is preferred.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas.
• Experience with enterprise accounting systems/ERP platforms; JD Edwards and SAP experience are considered strong assets.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with full-cycle payroll processing and reporting is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA program is preferred.
