Our client is looking for an Accountant to join a utilities and infrastructure organization in Calgary, Alberta on a Long-term Contract basis. This role is ideal for someone with strong transactional accounting experience who can support month-end, forecasting, financial analysis, and process improvements.

Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including transactional processing, invoice support, and reconciliations.
• Complete month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reviews, and supporting schedules.
• Support monthly forecasting, variance analysis, and communication of financial results.
• Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts to support financial planning.
• Support fixed asset accounting, including additions and asset schedules.
• Monitor G& A expenses, spending trends, and overhead reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve manual processes through technology and automation.
• Use Sage 50 and advanced Excel to analyze financial data and support reporting.
• Assist with finance-related system and process changes as required.

Requirements:

• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including month-end close and financial forecasting.
• Hands-on experience with cash forecasting, reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting.
• Strong knowledge of AP, invoice processing, and general accounting functions.
• Proficiency with Sage 50 and strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.
• Comfortable working in manual environments while identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly.
• Proactive and analytical mindset with the confidence to question processes and recommend improvements.
