Our client is looking for an Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Calgary, Alberta on a Long-term Contract basis. This role is ideal for someone who can work independently, take ownership of accounting activities, and bring consistency to reconciliations, month-end processes, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Complete outstanding month-end accounting activities to support accurate and timely reporting.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting working papers.
• Perform balance sheet, intercompany, invoice, payment, and bank reconciliations.
• Review financial statements, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies.
• Work with the finance team to understand existing workflows and document key accounting procedures.
• Develop process documentation to improve consistency and strengthen internal controls.
• Improve reconciliation review and approval processes and maintain organized month-end support.
• Use ERP systems and Excel, including pivot tables and lookups, to analyze data and validate balances.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated accounting experience with strong hands-on involvement in reconciliations and month-end activities.
• Solid knowledge of balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger review.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments, and manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency with Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
• Experience with an ERP system; Yardi experience is an asset.
• Working knowledge of AP, invoices, payroll, and intercompany accounting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented approach with the ability to identify gaps, improve processes, and maintain accurate documentation.
