About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established not-for-profit organization in the Greater Vancouver area, is seeking an Accountant to join their team. This is a broad and hands-on role responsible for accounting, payroll, benefits administration, financial reporting, and audit coordination. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership while playing a key role in ensuring the organization's financial operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare month-end and year-end financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Maintain the General Ledger and oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
• Prepare financial reports and funding documentation for external stakeholders
• Complete government remittances, including GST filings and related reporting
• Monitor aging receivables and payables and investigate discrepancies
• Coordinate the annual audit process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors
• Manage full-cycle payroll, including payroll processing, T4s, ROEs, benefits administration, and pension reconciliations
• Administer employee benefit programs and maintain payroll-related records
• Prepare workforce and employee reporting as required
• Maintain confidential financial, payroll, and personnel records
• Support process improvements, policy updates, and administrative best practices
• Provide general administrative support and assist with special projects as required
Qualifications
• Diploma, certificate, or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related field
• 3+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or finance administration experience
• Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and month-end reporting
• Strong understanding of payroll processing, benefits administration, and government remittances
• Experience coordinating external audits and supporting compliance requirements
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and work independently
• Experience within a not-for-profit or unionized environment is considered an asset
Compensation
The compensation range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000, dependent on experience, along with a hybrid work policy (4 days in office, 1 day from home), Pension, and flexible working hours. (ideally from 7:30am to 3pm). This role is based in Coquitlam.
