We are looking for an Accountant to join an Insurance firm in North York, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This role is well suited to a finance specialist with strong attention to detail who can support accurate reporting, maintain strong controls, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will contribute to financial reporting, reconciliations, audit support, and budgeting while working closely with internal teams to deliver reliable financial information.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare quarterly financial statements by compiling financial data, examining variances, and producing supporting schedules within established deadlines.

• Maintain the general ledger and related reporting processes to ensure financial records remain complete, accurate, and up to date.

• Record journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and support intercompany accounting and consolidation activities.

• Coordinate documentation and schedules for internal and external audits, helping to keep audit deliverables on track.

• Assist in the preparation of audited financial statements, including supporting notes and disclosure information.

• Complete regulatory filings and financial reports in accordance with applicable standards and submission timelines.

• Review payment documentation and verify coding and ledger entries before transactions are processed.

• Investigate reconciliation differences, work with business partners to resolve discrepancies, and support the annual budgeting process.

• Respond to recurring and ad hoc reporting requests by analyzing data and presenting clear financial insights.

• Contribute to finance-related system enhancements, upgrades, and testing activities, including work within ERP environments such as Dynamics GP when required.

• Undergraduate degree in commerce, finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
• Eligibility for, or active membership in, a recognized accounting designation.
• 2–3 years of post-qualification experience in public accounting, with insurance or reinsurance exposure considered an asset.
• Strong ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
• Proven experience collaborating effectively with stakeholders across different levels of an organization.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong overall computer literacy, including experience with accounting and ERP systems.
• Working knowledge of core accounting operations such as accounts payable, invoices, payroll support, and reconciliations.
• Strong approach to client service, communication, and teamwork.
