Position: Senior Accountant, Mortgage Fund Trust Accounting
Location: Downtown Toronto (Subway Accessible) – Hybrid Work Model
About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our client's Corporate Finance team. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing trust accounting for multiple mortgage fund trust accounts. The position requires a high level of professionalism and adaptability to meet reporting demands amidst daily trust activity and industry changes. Attention to detail is paramount as trust reporting maintains an extremely low error tolerance. The ideal candidate will excel in a dynamic environment, showcasing strong organizational skills and precision.
Job Duties in Brief:
- Conduct daily trust bank reconciliations, overseeing complex trust transactions within the mortgage administration system.
- Collaborate with various departments, including mortgage administration, finance, and treasury, to address issues and track unresolved items.
- Manage daily investor trust payments, executing wires and ACH credits from trust accounts.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and analysis reports for management review.
- Maintain monthly accounting schedules and input journal entries into the accounting system.
- Enhance controls and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Provide senior management with periodic analysis and breakdowns of financial activity.
- Serve as the primary contact for audits of the corporate entity, facilitating auditor queries and submissions.
- Prepare regulatory and compliance filings, such as OSC excess working capital and Stats Canada surveys.
- Act as a backup for other finance team functions, including accounts payable and banking operations.
- Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with specific experience in mortgage fund trust accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred.
- Accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CMA) is advantageous but not required.
