Our client in the Hamilton area is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to lead payroll, financial reporting, and full-cycle accounting operations. This role is well suited for a detail-oriented professional who can balance day-to-day execution with providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee full-cycle payroll processing, including remittances, benefits, and compliance with Canadian legislation
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow)
• Deliver variance analysis and financial reporting to support business planning and performance tracking
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing functions
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Coordinate with external accountants on audits, tax filings, and regulatory requirements
• Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
• Drive process improvements and support implementation or optimization of accounting and payroll systems
• Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and continuous development

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including payroll and financial reporting
• 2–3 years of supervisory or management experience
• Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and financial reporting standards
• Proven experience preparing full financial statements and supporting audits
• Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and advanced Excel skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
