Accounting Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their Finance team in a fast-paced, challenging, and exciting work environment. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager will lead, plan, and optimize the operations of the Finance unit.

This opportunity is ideal for a strategic and collaborative finance leader who enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders, driving process improvements, and mentoring high-performing teams. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, sound business judgment, and at least five years of people leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Business Planning

• Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial reports to managers, executive leadership, provincial stakeholders, and the Board of Directors
• Identify and recommend new technologies to improve financial processes and support the efficient completion of finance activities
• Lead and support the transition to new accounting software over the next 1–2 years, including process redesign where needed

Operations Management

• Oversee the financial activities, transactions, and accounting processes performed by Finance Unit staff and the Industrial Product Program Unit
• Review current workflows and develop or adapt processes to reflect operational changes and improve efficiency
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate interim and year-end audits with external auditors and internal teams
• Partner with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and Financial Policy Manager to communicate audit results to the Audit Committee and Board of Directors
• Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as required
• Approve implementation of and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
• Ensure all account reconciliations and key financial controls are completed accurately and on time
• Perform cash flow analysis and support effective financial planning
• Strengthen internal controls and risk management practices to support sound financial management

People Leadership

• Lead, manage, and support Finance Unit staff
• Recruit, train, coach, and mentor team members in the completion of financial activities
• Oversee the performance management program, including staff supervision, evaluation, and development
• Foster a collaborative team culture that supports continuous learning and succession planning within the Finance Unit

Qualifications and Skills

• In-depth knowledge of current accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of financial systems and enterprise accounting platforms
• Knowledge of emerging industry trends and business best practices
• Solid understanding of internal controls, audit processes, and risk management
• Strong financial reporting experience preferred
• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends, root causes, and key business drivers
• Ability to develop accounting policies and procedures that support day-to-day fiscal operations
• Strong problem-solving skills with a logical, methodical, and evaluative approach
• Ability to recommend strategic solutions and advise on complex financial matters
• Excellent written communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and formatting financial documents
• Strong presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant business applications

Education and Experience

• Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required
• 7–8 years of progressive accounting experience
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory or people leadership experience
• Experience supporting audits and presenting financial information to senior leadership is an asset
• Experience with accounting system implementations or major system upgrades is an asset
