    JOB SUMMARY:



    Reporting to the Director, Global Logistics, the Sr. Customs Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Canadian and U.S. import regulations and audit classifications, valuations and documentation when needed. The incumbent’s success relies on timely clearance of goods through Canadian and U.S. customs as well as the maintenance of the company’s good standing in terms of customs compliance.



    The Sr. Customs Compliance Coordinator acts as a business partner and possesses in-depth working knowledge in several areas of international business trade. She/he fully understands the importance of meticulous documentation, follows up on the periodic and daily tasks listed below, and ensures guidance to the more junior staff in place.



    Primary Responsibilities:



    Act as the customs compliance main resource within the global logistics group;

    Provide assistance to the inbound logistics group and ensure that the customs clearance on inbound and outbound freight is completed without delays;

    Ensure all documents are on hand for customs clearance and solve after-hours U.S. CBP issues if necessary;

    Maintain a real-time tracking of the pending clearances, prioritizing inbound air shipment;

    Ensure compliance with U.S. import regulations with regard to classification, valuation, origin rules, free trade agreements, documentation and record-keeping;

    Assign HTS tariff classification;

    Resolve product description and value issues with Sourcing and Product Management teams;

    Work in conjunction with the Yantian 3PL to secure handover of the cargo;

    Coordinate international store openings (communicating with freight forwarders, International, Finance, and Construction departments, suppliers, building commercial invoice and packing list manually, working with franchisees to ensure no product is prohibited or requires additional certificates);

    Work closely with International department and franchisees for any issues, exceptions, and special requests;

    Assist with training of new hires and/or train current staff on new processes;

    Maintain FDA registrations;

    Manage export cargo bookings with our partners’ freight forwarder and ensure that we maintain proper communication flow with the consignees;

    Obtain export Certificate of Origins from the different Chambers of Commerce

    Prepare/organize destruction of duty paid goods with CBSA;

    Prepare documentation for requests for ATA Carnets;

    Arrange returns to overseas vendors;

    Work with Application Support and IT departments to build/upgrade new systems/processes;

    Assist his/her colleagues in sending files to customs broker for the purpose of customs clearance, proceed with 7501 and B3 verification after clearance and apply for B2 if necessary;

    Manage Canadian and US duty drawback filing as well as artwork duty filing;

    Represent the Customs compliance Department in CBSA and/or CBP audits;

    Assist Sourcing department with garment label information, package marking information, and special requirements and regulation for non-garment products (Canada, US, international);

    Ensure compliant reporting of cosmetic products to Health Canada;

    Approve brokerage and freight service invoices.



    Secondary Responsibilities:



    Oversee the validation of the HTS number assignment in our PLM;

    Assist in the follow-up of missing documentation with our supplier base;

    Assist colleagues in preparing customs and B13 documentation for international franchisees.



    QUALIFICATIONS:



    3-5 years of exp erience in customs brokerage, import/export business, expeditin g functions and materials transportation administration required;

    Strong technical proficiency with classification of goods within the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and U.S. customs rules and regulations for women’s apparel. Must possess proven ability to apply customs rules and regulations;

    Familiarity with all required customs documentation for both the importation and exportation of goods and knowledge of regulations enforced by other government agencies: FDA, USDA, CPSC, FCC, Fish and Wildlife, etc.;

    Strong English communication skills (written and spoken); knowledge of French is a definite asset;

    Education (include professional designation)



    DEC or AEC in Finance/Business Administration;

    Completion of Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Certificate, Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Qualification Certificate or Certified Customs Specialist is an asset.



    Technical Skills



    Excellent Microsoft Windows computer skills (ability to synthesize data);

    Strong financial acumen;

    Ability to multitask and succeed in achieving objectives in a rapidly evolving

    environment;

    Excellent communication skills;

    Detail-oriented;

    Strong organizational and planning skills;

    Industry knowledge/experience.
