    High-Speed Photonic Components (HSPC)

    Job Description:

    Ciena is opening a position for a R&D technologist in the High-Speed Photonic Components (HSPC) group for his office in Quebec city. From the early validation phase to the final qualification of integrated photonic components (both SiP and InP technologies), the holder of this position will participate in the various development phases of our products.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Perform optical and electrical tests on photonic devices;
    Build opto-mechanical prototypes (die bonding, wire bonding, optical component alignment, etc.);
    Perform environmental tests (temperature, humidity, etc.);
    Gather and contribute in the analysis of tests data and write technical reports;
    Interact with other members of the HSPC team and with different teams within Ciena for efficient development of prototypes and products;
    Identify and purchase components and instruments from external suppliers;
    Manage your work time to meet your scheduled tasks/deliverables according to priorities;
    Keep technical documentation up to date;
    Get involved in improving tools and work techniques in the laboratories.
    Required Qualifications / Profile:

    You have a college diploma in physic technology or equivalent;
    You have experience and good knowledge in the following fields:
    Manipulation of optical and electronic components: silicon and InP chips, lenses, electronic dies, etc…;
    Opto-mechanical prototyping with optical alignment and fiber coupling to optical waveguides;
    Manipulation, cleaning, splicing of optical fibers;
    Practical experience with photonic and electronic test and characterization equipments: power meter, RF electrical and optical spectrum analyzer, etc.;
    Photonic components measurement experience: insertion loss, extinction ratio, etc.
    Basic mechanics and electronics knowledge;
    You are rigorous, well organized/structured, team player and have a strong desire for innovation and technical/experimental problem solving;
    Ability to clearly communicate (synthesis) in a proactive and solutions-focused manner;
    Excellent communications skills in English and French (written and oral).
