DESCRIPTION

Naval Electronic Sensor Operators operate the radar and radio detection devices, radar jamming systems and decoys, and gun/missile-firing equipment carried on major naval warships.
As members of the ship’s Combat Team, they detect, locate and identify friendly and enemy submarines, ships and aircraft. They also support the defence of their ship from all threats.

The primary responsibilities of the Naval Electronic Sensor Operator are to:
• Locate and identify unknown radars
• Listen to communications from other submarines, ships, aircraft and shore bases
• Operate gun and missile-firing equipment used to defend the ship
• Conduct intelligence and evidence gathering

At sea, Naval Electronic Sensor Operators work mostly within the ship’s Operations Room where they operate some of the most modern and sophisticated warfare equipment at sea today.They serve on ships based in Halifax, Nova Scotia or in Esquimalt, British-Columbia.

Generally, the number of hours of work per week is 40 hours. However, military members can be called to work on atypical schedules according to the operational needs.

You can apply for this position if you meet at least these conditions:
To have completed at least 24 secondary school units (Secondary 4 and / or 5); OR Have completed a diplôme d’études professionnelles (DEP); OR Have obtained a certificate of equivalence at the secondary level (AENS-TENS); OR Have acquired General Educational Development (GED).

Salary : 35 800$ to 98 300$ per year*

* The minimum wage mentioned above is the first year of service. The military member will earn a base salary of approximately $ 60,200 after approximately four years of service.
