Role Summary:
The focus of the Health Management Consultant is to provide high quality rehabilitation services to claimants of group policyholders. These services are designed to return the claimant to a productive lifestyle and to assist in the cost containment of disability plans. Providing effective rehabilitation services contributes to client satisfaction and retention of group disability business.

Main Accountabilities:
* Assess claimant files to determine the most suitable rehabilitation goal, in keeping with the individuals coverage
* Develop and facilitate rehabilitation case management plans in keeping with the overall claims strategy, developed by the Abilities Case Manager
* Liaise with the claimant, the employer and various health care professionals in an effort to progress the rehabilitation plan
* Research and utilize external resources as necessary toward the resolution of files
* Provide input and influence to the claims management strategy through an active partnership with the Abilities Case Manager
* Regularly document the rehabilitation file and communicate with the various team members in order to ensure a strong partnership
* Work collaboratively with disability to identify concerns, issues or trends, which may affect disability management plans

Competencies:
* Counseling and problem solving skills
* Vocational planning skills
* Expertise in determining client needs and delivering direct client service
* Effective interpersonal skills including negotiation and facilitation where conflicting needs exist
* Excellent communication skills; an ability to adapt communication style for a range of needs
* Effective self-directed work style, requiring minimal supervision
* Excellent organizational skills
* Excellent writing skills
* Computer literacy; knowledge of Word, Lotus Notes, Excel, Internet
Assets:
* Group disability insurance experience
* Training in a health profession or vocational rehabilitation
* CCRC (Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor) / RRP (Registered Rehabilitation Professional) designation or working to achieve one
Notes/Unique Requirements:
* Related post secondary degree
* Valid drivers license
* Ability to travel extensively by car with occasional overnight stays
* Ability to work independently in a home office environment
