Officer, WSIB Specialist
If you have the ambition, talent and drive, consider a fast-moving career with Canada Post. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic WSIB Specialist to liaise with WCBs (Workers’ Compensation Boards) and represent the Corporation before these Boards.
The successful candidate will:
• Represent Canada Post before WCBs through all levels of the adjudication, conciliation and appeals process to resolve disputes in a non-adversarial climate and in a cost-effective manner
• Make timely decisions to prevent, reduce and control workers’ compensation claims and administration costs
• Maintain an awareness of proposed legislation and provide input on new trends and developments or problems to influence changes to WCB policies, with a view to reducing costs and protecting corporate assets
• Monitor, assess and audit compensation claims for legitimacy, possible challenge, trends analysis and cost control
• Research and assess the budgetary and economic implications of WCB policies and programs and advise corporate management on corrective actions
• Researches and drafts correspondence, reports and other communication of Corporate OHS&E group or for senior management within the Division concerning all aspects of Workers’ Compensation issues within a strict time frame
• Maintains through training and continuing education an up to date level of competency al all IOD/WCB related matters
Qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s degree in laws, industrial relations or other related field
• Member of the Bar would be an asset
• 5 years experience in the management of workers’ compensation claims in a unionized environment including experience in making representations before administrative tribunals
• Experience in research of jurisprudence and writing legal correspondence, opinions and reports
