Job recovery continues in Quebec

Quebec added 16,900 new jobs to its economy over the past month, following gains of 41,100 during the previous two periods. The new jobs have allowed the province to reclaim its “excellent” jobs status—a level it hasn’t achieved since October 2004 (94.7 percent). These positive results also make up for the loss of 42,000 positions from February to May.

Increases were mostly favoured by strong job creation in the manufacturing sector, led by the construction industry. In the services sector, new jobs were found primarily in the transportation and warehousing industry as well as in educational services. Most of the 36,300 new jobs were full-time positions. Net job creation in Quebec remains positive, with a year-to-date net increase of 31,700 jobs (+0.9). Over the past 12 months, there was a net increase of 45,700 jobs (+1.2).
