Jobboom Index reclaims "excellent" status


Following a slight job increase in September (+ 10,900), this month's Quebec Jobboom Index gains 1.2 percentage points to 90.8 percent. For a fourth time this year, the province's Index achieves an employment status of "excellent". Over the past month, the goods-producing sector reported a net employment gain of 7,900, following the marked recovery of Quebec's manufacturing industries (+ 9,900) which suffered important loses over the past few months. Meanwhile, the services sector managed to produce only a small net employment gain of 3,000 positions. This sector suffered an important loss (-12,900) in the public administration category. Notable gains were achieved in the finance, insurance, real-estate and leasing industries (+ 8,400) and in health care and social assistance (+ 5,400).

The Jobboom Index measures job market strength over the past 120 months. This month's Index for Quebec ranks 9th out of 120, meaning there were 111 months with lesser Indices over the past 10 years. During this same 10-year period, employment in Quebec grew by 20 percent.
