Toronto’s Regional Index: 79.3 percent
Toronto’s forecast reflects the loss of 5,500 jobs in October, adding to losses of 14,000 over the previous period. Thus, this month’s Index is down by 3.9 points. These latest results add to the downward trend reported for Toronto, whose employment status has dropped to “favourable” from that of “excellent” (from July to September 2004). This month’s Jobboom Index ranks 42nd out of 120, leaving 78 months with lesser Indices over the past ten years. From October 1994 to October 2004, the number of jobs in Toronto has increased from 2,019,300 to 2,755,700—an increase of 36 percent. Ottawa-Gatineau’s Regional Index: 77.6 percent November’s Jobboom Index for Ottawa-Gatineau drops by a slight 1.3 points following a month of zero employment growth. This month’s Index ranks 22nd out of 120, leaving 98 months with lesser Indices over the past ten years. From October 1994 to October 2004, the number of jobs in the regions increased from 499,000 to 619,500—an increase of 24 percent.
