Jobboom Index on the rebound!

Quebec’s Jobboom Index reported its strongest gain of the year (+ 7.8) following the creation of 31,000 jobs in May. This progression makes up for the loss of 24,000 positions over the previous period. With an Index of 91.2 percent for the month of June, Quebec’s employment status is now “excellent,” for the first time in nine months.

Quebec’s positive results in May are largely attributable to the strength of the province’s finance, insurance, real estate and leasing sector (+ 19,800) and its information, culture and recreation sector (+ 15,900). Meanwhile, important losses were reported in manufacturing (- 11,800) and in trade (- 20,100). From May 2005 to May 2006, employment in Quebec grew by 2.5 percent.
