This inactivity has had an impact on the good-producing sector, which only succeeded in producing a total of 900 new jobs in June, with the largest gains reported in Utilities (+ 3,300). Meanwhile, losses reported in Agriculture
(-1,500) and Construction (-1,400) offset gains. The services-producing sector lost a total of 1,200 jobs, with major losses reported in Transportation and warehousing (-10,000) and Trade (-8,300). The highest gains were posted in the following sub-sectors: Information, culture and recreation (+ 14,300) and Business, building and other support services (+ 8,900). Over the past 12 months, employment in Quebec has grown by 0.5 %. The Jobboom Index measures job market strength on a monthly basis and compares this performance over the past 120 months. This month’s index ranks 5th out of 120, meaning there were 115 months with weaker indices over the past 10 years. From June 1998 to June 2008, employment in this province has grown by 19 %.
